Activities with Purpose
1. Make reading part of the daily routine, as confidence builds, take turns reading a page of text with your child
2. Take biweekly trips to the local library or the library. You may be surprised at the resources available!
3. Demonstrate how to use a diary to make short journal entries about the fun of the day, Make it a shared activity by writing in your own journal alongside him/her.
4. Write letters to family and friends, postcards are a less taxing alternative
5. Make signs to celebrate special occasions as a family, coloring or tracing can offer fine motor practice
6. Use sound and movement to practice literacy skills
7. Try audio books when you can't do a read aloud
